ALMOST DIED IN DEHYDRATION

My son has a short gut as a result to his omphalocele complication. We were already aware that having this kind of health related problem will lead to malnutrition and dehydration. That is why we always gave him oral rehydration solution. After for 3 months of consuming the said meds, I had notice that his stoma releases watery discharges. I think it was just okay. Still continue giving the oral rehydration meds. In this situation, things were not the same, he is getting skinny. He vomited two times a day. On the third day, no more second thought, we rushed him to the nearest hospital.
Thank God. He was been rescued. He had a chronic lowest bowel movement for no definite known cause. We stayed in the hospital for four days and three nights.

Our hospital experiences:

A lot of liquid poohs came out to his fistula, like water in a drain! It pretty awful. We drain the colostomy bag every 4 hours. It came to a point also that his intravenous (IV) got dislodge. A series of poking came along. How could a little one could sleep better if he will be awaken again and again just for IV insertion?  I knew it’s very painful because he always produces a far flung cry.

I prayed that the nurses which they called “shooters” will eventually shoot the good veins for his IV  and no to cut down issue. Luckily the fifth nurse from the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) came and was able to hit the correct vein for the IV. Thank God I am relief.

SOME HOSPITAL UPDATES

Let me start the good news guys.

My hubby and i was amaze upon seeing Rus eating his cereal, CERELAC very well. In fact he will grab his spoon, making moves that he wants for more. He drinks his milk well. In fact he can consume 3 ounces every 3 hours.

He pooh for two times in 2 days. His doctor was very happy of this little but significant changes.

Rus undergo another blood transfusion. He don't have fever yet his hemoglobin and hematocrit drops. this is already his fifth time of  blood transfusion.

Regrading our hospital bills, it is still high. We can not discharge without external support. To tell you guys, we were so blessed that their are still people whom we called philanthropist. My hubby loans a 10k to his boss. However she only allow my hubby to pay the first half only because the other half will serves as her donation to us. My sister-in-law just visited us in the hospital just to gave us cash, which we eventually use in our bills.

My heart melts of their generosity. My heart whispers a simple prayer of thanksgiving. My family was been helped. He only stayed in the hospital for 4 days and 3 nights. We are all happily discharged and we go back home safely.

This  photo was taken a day before discharge.

MUSCLE ENHANCER TOYS

Today was another exciting day for Baby Rusver. He went malling with us. Definitely our purpose to go shopping is to buy stuff for the baby. We bought toys, some of his apparel and shoes.

We need to be cautious in selecting the perfect toy or toys for our baby.Toys we allow to our baby to play may have effects to their life in the near future. Example, the kind of toy that you purchase for your baby will decide what type of person he'll be in future. If you're the type to purchase your kid guns then you really ought to know the kid might finish up being merely a lover of guns.

Importance of toys

Toys aren’t merely meant to spoil a child. It helps in the child’s intellectual and emotional development aside from the fact that it refines the child’s senses and motor skills.

ü  Toys allow babies to think and figure out how things function.
ü  Toys bring out the creative side of a child.
ü  Toys help babies in controlling their movement and body functions.
ü  Toys enhance the baby’s strength and coordination.
ü  Toys allow babies to know what interaction with others mean.
ü  Toys teach babies the virtue of sharing.
ü  Toys allow babies to play with their imaginations.

SAFETY TIPS TO CONSIDER IN BUYING TOYS

1. Avoid buying small toys that can be easily put unto the mouth.  They can be easily  get choke when  swallowed.
2. Since baby love to put toys on their mouth, try to consider the toys you allow him. Some toys contain dangerous chemicals which as quickly as they find their way into the child's body, they would just as well harm him.

THANKS GOD. YOU LEAD US: HAPPY 6 MONTHS

Now, my baby is already 6 months old. We were getting further and the problems in the  horrible “o” tummy smaller they seem already. How amazingly our prayers were answered. Thank you for all the hundreds of people who contributed their prayers for our loving angel, Rusver not only to survive but to thrive as well. So blessed with a family who do everything and who continually support us in different ways.  God is so great! He allows me to see the possibilities of all you could be.

The  video clip is very significant to us knowing Rus is a happy baby although he had underwent several hardships in life. The boy teaches to be tranquil and prayerful in spite of the tribulations.

GLORIOUS 5 MONTHS

I am happy to present to the world my star patch. I toke this one when I had my pneumonococcal vaccination last May  24, 2013 with my pediatrician, Dr. Dennis James Absin.

The feedback was just the same as of last time, I don't have swelling or fever. This means that my body was able to tolerate the pain and the vaccine. I'm happy to tell that my health milestone was doing great. No more throw ups. No more acid reflux. Thanks for LOSEC of Dr. Absin. I pooh most of the time. At first, their were a lot of discharges in my diapers and the rest of the days I got only few scoops of my pooh.

This day June 6, I am happily celebrating my  5 months old. I drink well. Hopefully I gain better weight. I am excited to see Dr. Absin again for the next follow up check up. The same emotion also with my surgeon, Dr. Tagayuna which was still in United States of America for a holiday.

FATHER & SON BONDING

I am grateful that my hubby spend also quality time with our son, Rus in spite of his hectic time and tiresome work schedule. Happy to see him playing and talking with him.

I was really touch when I heard him say. " Love you my miracle strong baby."

It was said that that babies with secure attachments to their parents have better chances to develop into happy, successful, and well-adjusted children and adults. http://www.civitas.org.uk/hwu/fathers.php

Once the father is involve in the growth of the baby, it has a great impact to their growth.https://www.childwelfare.gov/pubs/usermanuals/fatherhood/chaptertwo.cfm

Why do dads matter?

Dads matter so much in the lives of their children, because studies show that children with involved, loving fathers have healthier self-esteem, are more likely to do well in school, and exhibit better social behaviors than those children who have uninvolved fathers.http://auburnpub.com/lifestyles/fathers-play-key-role-in-healthy-child-development/article_89ce66bf-9c63-5c90-acc4-b9bd54362a12.html

JUNE 24, 2013

This day I meet with my doctors for the next vaccination and fistula evaluation. Happy to meet them. This day I gained only 100 grams from my previous weight. My pediatrician still wants me to maintain my vitamins and milk considering that my fistula was not yet repaired. In the next month I will start eating solid food. Hopefully I will gain more weight and it makes me a bit bigger than what i was now.

Meanwhile, my surgeon evaluated me with my fistula and the reconstruction will be done next year when I will be 1 yr and 6 months old. At least in this point, my parents had enough money to launch the next surgery and at the same time I am big enough to recover fast. she was happy because I had grown well. She is very hopeful for me that I can really recover fast. Thanks for her positive feedback and prayers.

JUNE 26, 2013

Looking  for a philanthropist is hard especially for those who will sponsor in the hospitalization and medication.  I asked already my sister regarding those group who initiated in the help for our son however we don't receive feedback from them yet. We opened our case to Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO). Happy for they respond so fast. We met Dr. Ichon who make arrangements in the doctors in the Northern Mindanao Medical Center (NMMC). We met Dr. Naval (Residence Physician) and Dr. Gacus (Pediatric Surgeon). They evaluated the baby. We found out that Dr. Tagayuna was the head of all the surgeons here in Region X. Whatever be her decision towards the baby will be the final decision of Dr. Gacus.

JUNE 30, 2013

For me though I posted some of the funny, whinny and crying moments of my son because it is part of his kaleidoscope memories and activities to remember.

4 MONTHS OLD

The life of my son is tough. If I ha to read the research study of great doctors and scientists, definitely i will be overwhelmed with their study results that the life of an "O" babies is far having many complications. It is true that I can not deny the fact that I am hurt when people gave their subjective comments on me and my baby. To be honest, I never do anything that could hamper my pregnancy. I take my pregnancy vitamins very religiously. Eat balance diet. Have regular good exercises. I am prompt with my prenatal every month and compliant on whatsoever my Ob-Gyne wants me to do. I entrust everything to the hand of our Almighty Father. I do believe He is the maker of all miracles that is why my son reach this level of life---happy 4 months old!!!

With the updates of the  FACEBOOK, I am blessed to have and joined this group--MOOs. It is a support  group of mothers with omphalocele babies. Its been a while I keep scouting a support group whom I could deliberately express myself about omphalocele babies. Thanks for my support group, the MOO's-Mother of Omphalocele. We could express and vent out all our innermost self regarding on our son's condition.

Let me quote it from one of the MOOs mother's blog about the ompahlocele baby.

God came to me in a dream and said:
"I have been looking for parents for this little boy for a long time, and no one seemed right until I found you.
Babies born with an Omphalocele are miracle babies. These beautiful miracle babies have to be handed out somewhere... I have to give them to someone. So look who I give them to- The ones who have the most loving, open arms, who are patient and strong, and who are capable of dealing with all the stresses!
Please love him and take care of him just as I have, and know that everything will work out just the way it is supposed to."

I could bear the difficulty of the dressing. I could bear his being whiny and his fussiness. I love so much my son that I am willing to give all the "ALL" I have for him to live normally, healthy and happily.

Happy to come this far in his journey without problems related to health.  My baby is such a fighter. He is looking straight forward for better recovery and value life. Happy to have this glorious months for him. Indeed "O" babies are really a fighter babies!

He is happily sucking his teether. His fine motor skills are working!

 SUCCESSFUL 6 in 1 VACCINATION

"I  am proud of my patch. I got no fever after  with my 6 in 1 vaccination."

My old colleagues from Bright Rock School. They share their blessings for my son to survive. Thank you guys. Special thanks also to Sr. Richie and Ms Kho (not in the photos).
